I SRSLY lol'd really, really hard until I read the Dev updates. It was essentially made to remove Smiter's boon's viability in PvP period.

Quoted from the unofficial site

Full: For 5 useless seconds, your Smiting Prayers have double the Divine Favor bonus.

Concise: (5 measly seconds.) Your Smiting Prayers have double Divine Favor healing bonus.

Surmounting a 25e skill that lasts for 5 sec with a 90 second recharge is a mighty accomplishment.

I don't know if revive animals is up to the task

Smiter's were gay.

Now they are less gay.

Cool.

Actually, it's more like smiters are still gay but they've been castrated and the remnants stuck on a pike in the city centre.

Actually I saw a Me/Mo ineptitude mesmer in RA. He brought [Smiter's Boon] and [Auspicious incantation] to power ineptitude and healing breeze. So I guess it isn't dead afterall.

Beating around the bush.

That's what the smiter's boon nerf did. Sure, it may look like it got nerfed to hell (and I won't argue here), but that does little to stop the power of the smiter template. The smiter still gets a free elite (YAA for movement, empathic for condis/hexes, or whatever), yet another free skill (perhaps a snare or spike assist skill), the ability to heal, remove condis, remove hexes, and provide party heals.

Same with the water updates. At most it takes 1 energy/1 second off those skills (I'm not even sure if it did that at 12 spec). Glowing ice, glyph immo, and steam are the key parts of the build, and all needs to be hit significantly (see: Mind blast nerf) for the build to not be as overpowered. I wouldn't even mind seeing a return of air and fire eles.

I lol'ed so badly. Usually Anet just tries to "balance" skills but you can obviously see they aimed to kill this one.

So Smiters put 14 in smiting now?

How about we change bad VoD?

...

Ok Divine I got it, you aim low I'll aim high, together we can take out ANet headquarters.

I thought monks always were castrated...

You mean they can regenerate?

No idea what Izzy was thinking killing the boon... still got the massive aoe smites and the nice reversal so . I mean there's Divine Boon still, energy hungry thing that it is, which is easy to turn on/off. Or I dunno, just run divine healings. Smite still feels playable, just need to tweak the bar a little.

Put in de 2 divine healing skills (Party) and a Prot Monk...

With 3 smiters, thats a "heal party" every 2.5 seconds...

Lol Smiter's boon just got nerfed so hard into the floor it's almost on par with pre-buff Otugyh cry(dunno how to spell it). Smiter template is still powerful as Divine said. I think people will replace Smiter's boon now with Divine Boon/bring castigation signet.

I'm gonna go out on a limb now and say what everyone is thinking.

Izzy, REALLY bad mood. Your job title includes SKILL BALANCING not SKILL KILLING. Do us all a favor and actually -do- your job. you could of done ANYTHING else to this skill. Add a "Lose 2 energy", lower the duration and keep the recharge, raise casting time to make it more interpretable. Honestly, ANY one of these would be a better solution, but instead you decided to nerf the skill so badly that I thought it was April Fools again. Really, Izzy, any credibility you have as a skill balancer is hanging on a thread already with some people, this is certainly not helping your case
